Oscar Wilde wrote that “Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life”.  It is often believed that we learn to see beauty and ideals from artists and their artistic expressions.  I thought I would play with this phenomenon sharing the newest addition to my art collection along with a copycat meal setup!

A few months ago, I found out that Lulie Wallace, an artist based in Charleston, South Carolina was launching a new series of tablescape paintings at the end of the summer.  She is well known for her whimsical flower renderings, which I have long admired.  These new tablescape paintings combined some of her signature blooms painted alongside pretty table settings and cute meals.  Having a blank wall in my dinning space seemed like the perfect excuse to treat myself to one of these artist’s originals.

Furthermore, I need to come clean: YES.  I am one of those people who snaps pictures of food all the time!  I am lucky that those that I spend time with find it an endearing quality and not annoying (as long as I can be quick)!  I love to remember great meals I have shared when scrolling through my camera roll.  That said, I love to photograph pretty much anything to begin with and my camera roll grows everyday with more!  For this reason, the subject matter of Lulie’s tablescapes was so appealing and too hard to resist.  I fell in love with Tablescape #9 when Lulie posted a sneak peak on her Instagram feed.  I love tacos and burritos, jalapeño peppers and everything super spicy and with the orange blooms in the painting it was exactly perfect… the painting had found its forever home with me.  Since the painting arrived, I thought it would be silly and delicious to celebrate by recreating the meal hanging on my wall… so I’d like to share the painting coming to life with my tasty lunch!

Although this has got me smiling, perhaps “Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life” can be further explored in our times.   When looking towards life’s imitative instincts and the way we fashion our lives digitally through social media, it is clear to see the impact on how we live.  Will need to ponder this over another tasty dish!
